A decade ago students lived in the cheapest and grottiest shared houses a city had to offer. First-year students had it even worse, traditionally confined to bog-standard, barrack-like halls of residence tucked away on the edge of campus.
Lancaster has been relaxed about the private sector picking up and the demand among overseas students for hotel-type rooms, with flatscreen TVs and en suite bathrooms, made up solely of Luxury self-contained studio apartments, with rent ranging from £100 to £200 a week.
In our experience, we’ve found that there’s been a shift in student’s demands and what they now want from their student accommodation providers. In the past, students may have been happy to live in accommodation with poor conditions, as long as they were cheap. But now, we’re starting to see that more and more students are willing to pay a higher price in exchange for higher quality luxury student accommodation.
